The Court of Human Rights will decide this today. Before I went to prison I was in favour of "whole life" sentences; that was one of many areas where my eyes were opened.

Today's coverage illustrates it perfectly; it's not the ghastliness of crimes but the media coverage that makes a Jeremy Bamber a "worse" killer than someone the media didn't cover so big (not as good a story).

When the BBC mentioned Levi Belfield they describe him as "Milly Dowler's killer" (the other two girls are less good copy). I remember being told by a member of the LEVESON Inquiry that the good Lord wouldn't be interested in my evidence because "the other two girls were less high profile than Milly Dowler".

Everyone should have the chance to change. Society needs to be more decent, tolerant and intelligent.

I'd prefer the millions wasted on keeping people locked up who should be released to be spent on new and better schools and hospitals.

I listened to this on the radio between one of the murderers lawyers and he described how 'devastated' his client was at the whole life ruling, but little was said about the actual murder victims and the victim he blinded in prison (which the interviewer bought to his attention). I am not saying that the right to appeal shouldn't be given, but I just feel that with this and the 'right for prisoner vote' the prisoners themselves actually couldn't give a toss about these issues. Their lawyers however are laughing all the way to the bank with these claims in the name of 'human rights'.

fascinating to watch the hysterical media beat up this 'hooman rights' rubbish with a Little Englander mentality yet it's the nutters encouraged by a rapacious media and foe Tories who are destroying any hints of real Conservatism- all the things that made Britain great, like a legal system that avoided emotional garbage and the fantasy of 'victim's rights" (what on earth are they ?) and so on.

All Europe is doing is dragging the UK back to the middle ground where it sat for a few hundred years before (sorry JK) the Thatcherites (and that includes the odious Noo Labourites) who worshipped at the feet of that cretin Ronald Reagan.

note that in the USA real wages for over 40% of workers have now dropped to 7% below what they were pre-Reagan while prices have increased accordingly, with an economy and lifestyle the UK intends emulating.

Meanwhile people are dazzled by glitzy toys and tragic TV reality shows and faux outrage on prisoners/unions/old BBC stars/anything that diverts their attention from what is really happening.

I cant decide on this one. I am very keen that sentences should be the same for everyone who commits a similar crime, and that the media should play no part in it, but I am torn between the prisoners right to review and my right to not be murdered when those assessing the risk get it wrong.
