Hancock, Steptoe, Till Death Us Do Part, Fawlty Towers, Dads Army, Porridge, even things in the 90s like Drop the Dead Donkey and Father Ted. Only the IT Crowd has ever got close.
Documentaries are piss poor and sensationalist. Instead of going out and finding out with them, they are preset with the conclusions, hence we get lines like "now we know Jimmy Savile is a sexual predator" when we don't know that for sure and he has never stood trial for those allegations.
There was a brilliant BBC documentary that I saw on You Tube (sadly now removed but I downloaded it) from the late 80s based on the EAst Coast railway between Leeds and London. It just spoke to the passengers, the drivers and the conductors, showed when the system was working and showed when things didn't work. It was brilliant. No stupid voiceovers taking the piss, just a snapshot of a little bit of life.
TV is now just dead in this country.
