Not that it did me any favours - I looked quite ghastly in the silly wig, red satin bomber jacket and white trousers and didn't sing much better - but at least it was there... with lovely Viola Wills as one of my backing singers (sadly, no longer with us).

Funnily enough it's Tommy's favourite of my hits.

Now let's see those great Gary Glitter hits back on our screens.

I shall be very disappointed if at least 98% of the reactions are not complaints from the brain dead. It's what they are there for. Meanwhile the 99% of viewers will simply have thought "what a ghastly record" and "weren't the Undertones great?".

I sometimes wonder what language this board uses.

I don't think I'd heard that song of yours before, JK.
But I love the wig ... I want one!

It should of course read:
Elvis Costello & The Boomtown Rats put in great performances as well

The problem was my f**kin keyboard and me not reading the post before sending

The energy, rawness and musicality exhibited by Elvis Costello, The Boomtown Rats and The Undertones unfortunately did make JK's performance a bit cringe worthy in comparison.

Actually it was a fabulous edition of Top of the Pops - some great tracks and artistes... sadly myself, Dollar and the Smurfs were not amongst the best.

The Smurfs were a surprise. I could have sworn that they were red rather than blue - how the memory plays tricks!

When I saw the performance last night I remembered the wigs from my childhood, but not the song.
On first hearing I didn't think much of the song, but it has been going around my head all day, so it must have had something.

A very good episode I thought particularly the Undertones, Dollar, and Legs & Co doing Instant Replay. I really wish they wouldn't edit out the Grease video at the end and show an old clip of legs and co, it really is penny pinching.

One for you, One for me is really growing on me.

Jk, How did totp work in those days. Did you mime over the single?, did you record the song before the show?, or did you sing live to a pre-recorded backing track?

Sadly I sang (badly) to track - the others mainly mimed, I think.

I remember One for You One for Me.

As a teenager I intensely disliked all your 70s records, but since rediscovering you courtesy of Vile Pervert about 5 years ago I find them delightfully camp.

Agree with comments about the energy of the performances by the Boomtown Rats and Elvis Costello, but feel Public Image need a mention too.

And bloody hell, weren't Legs and Co dreadful!

Although I don't actually think One For You is my finest musical moment, I should point out it was my last Top 30 hit as a singer in 1978, a career that started in 1965... 13 years was longer than most!

Indeed yes; strange to think - in a show that great, with Michael Jackson, John Travolta, Johnny Rotten, Geldof, Costello, Rea - the only one that "trends" seems to be me... must be because my talent is so much greater... lol.

The weekend repeat? That's surely the result of JK's latest food post. (And if he says 'chilled' bottle of white wine more time I'm coming to knock on his door, whatever colour he's painted it, to administer a slap!)

I didn't see the programme or the repeat but am pleased that you were not cut from the show JK. Whatever the alleged rights or wrongs of anyones life history is what it is and a hit song is/was a hit song. It is also I believe especially important to make possible the re-integration of ex-offenders back into society when at all possible (mental patients/killers/mass murderers etc less easy!) because otherwise in a lot of cases they will have no option but to go back to their old ways and that is not helpful to anyone!

Crime should be punished but once a sentence has been served then those who truly believe in justice should be prepared to give people another chance. Or am I being idealistic?
