and U K Records - 80 great hits from the 60s & 70s - is better than all of them (and not a note from Fattie Williams).

KTel was first with 20 Dynamic Hits, Arcade followed them with 20 Fantastic Hits. KTel followed their album with 22 Dynamic Hits Volume 2. I remember them well. Lots of hits edited to fit all the tracks on a singe LP.
But at least they were original artists! It all started in 1972. It took 11 years fr the industry to take the job in house with Now!

K-Tel these days are re-recordings unless it's country.

What a lot of people don't know about the top of the pops albums is that they had nothing to do with the tv show of the same name. The bbc forgot to copyright the name and Pickwick records used the name to release albums of cover versions of the latest hits.

How successful were these compilations, did any of the session singers etc become famous after ? Pickwick always guaranteed me disappointment as recordings were terrible and sound was quiet, even the DVD's they put out are naff - nothing wrong with films in the public domain they can at least remaster the poor prints they have.

Elton John was doing covers for Embassy (the cheap Woolworths covers label) when I first met him in the 60s.

Even when read as a telegram I can't understand what you write. Would it be so much of a strain to be coherent?
