He and Yoko were having coffee with me and Bean outside a New York cafe and John and I had a long and incredibly real conversation. At one point he asked me if I thought he looked fat and round now - he'd caught sight of his reflection in a shop window (we were both aged as we would be now) and I said he wasn't fat but did look rounder, especially his face which used to be sharper and angular with a pointed nose and chin, whereas now it was rounder and he wailed "I don't want to be round. I want to be sharp and angular" in his Scouse accent, which made us all laugh... this was precisely the sort of thing John WOULD say and so startled me I almost woke up but luckily I didn't and we went on to have a very long, 20 minutes chat involving so many mutual friends and events...

Very odd and actually very nice.

I've got a feeling (haven't checked) it's quite close to the anniversary of his death (we were due to have lunch a few days later).

Had a conversation about John with some mates what he be doing now, strangely enough we came to same conclusion retire from music and be a recluse, his last album would of been made in 96.

The anniversary was a few days ago - Dec 8th (1980)
