Sounds of the Sixties - the most listened to radio show in Britain? 11 Years, 4 Months ago
Someone told me this fact, based on the recent RAJAR ratings.

If so, why? It's certainly the only one I religiously tune into, wherever in the world I may be. But I'm old. And so are most others who lived through the Sixties. Or, I hate to say it, dead. Why are younger listeners (40s and below) who cannot remember those hits, tuning in by their millions? More than listen to Chris Evans on weekdays?

I hate to say it; it can only be because the music of the 60s was far better than that of the 70s, 80s… or now. Or 50s, come to that.

Opinions?

Not necessarily far better - although much of it was.
More a cultural revolution really.

The change from the 50s to the 60s was breathtaking - and no developments since have equalled that great leap.

I suspect the show IS mainly listened to by the oldies.

The fact that stars like McCartney and The Rolling Stones are STILL amongst the biggest draws in the world emphasizes this - but the decade was about much more than just music, music was the soundtrack to an era change.
