Oh I thought it was funny in a smile rather than laugh way but the concept is spot on. These days imagine a popular music combo without all the links!

The reality is The Beatles could never happen again just for the reasons in that ridiculous video.

The Beatles were able to develop into what Eric Clapton called "The four headed beast".

They were able to get so good over time, without hype, before they hit Ed Sullivan.

Today they would have been all over Youtube and Twitter, years before Ed Sullivan when thousands of kids were cramming down Mathew Street trying to get into the Cavern.

Without the today's technology they were able to hit America fully formed, and that is why we're still talking about it 50 years later.

Hype is the worst enemy of great music, and social media is directly responsible for many of the embarrassingly bad acts we just saw on the Grammys and Brits.

Kids that literally can't sing a note on pitch, write nursery rhyme songs, and can't play an instrument to save their life.

What the hell went wrong?

Thank God For Adele, Martin Mills, and Richard Russell for today's benchmark of balls and quality.

Exactly GG - we should also thank God for Simon Cowell; it may be a different kind of music development but at least it means huge sales of music.

I don't condemn any kind of music. But I do worry that, by exposing, selling and promoting less good music (of all types) the punters are happy to settle for less. If you've never tasted strawberries you're happy to eat shit.

It's the music industry that's to blame. For not finding, creating or encouraging great new ways to promote music. For settling for below average hits to bring in smaller profits instead of reaching for the stars (and making billions).

A new Beatles could probably never emerge because the marketplace is dominated by Gangnam Style, Daft Punk, catchy, simplistic, empty hits that give instant gratification. Who needs to appreciate depth when they cannot feel, think or love in depth? Bored now.
