Eurovision update 11 Years, 1 Month ago
As the week kicks in - I link you once more to our "entry" - the one that got away. Only a few hundred seem to have seen it so far. Give it a try.

After the first semi final, several calls from people saying "this is better than any of the entries that got through tonight".
By the way, check out my Interview for Popbitch in their excellent FREE Eurovision app…

Russia soundly boo-ed on their entry though nothing against the girls; I suspect the Ukrainians were doing a lot of it.

Actually some rather interesting entries - Austria (the bearded lady) is very strong and I like the Norwegian entry.

At 4-1 I reckon the bearded lady Austria is worth £100.

Our entry needs a Ronnie Hazelhurst.

Well I have to say I think it was the best collection of Eurovision entries in ages. Virtually every entry was decent. No hits unfortunately but I'd put Austria top, Norway second, Spain third and many others high on the list. As for Molly, I predicted 18th when I heard it picked and I'd say that's our likely finish.

Well JK scores again (so did my friend Popbitch who put £100 on Austria when she was 40-1). Got Molly badly wrong though -I said 18th and she came 17th.

Perhaps next year the BBC would like a little help?

Well when I saw you were thinking of placing a bet on Austria I though 'nah..not a chance' But you triumph again! I've been watching the contest for almost 40 years and though I could spot a winner.. but no. You were uncanny with your placing of Molly though-only 1 out. Perhaps indeed the BBC would like a little help

Best Eurovision in ages; as though all countries had pulled their socks up and decided to enter decent songs. But no hits (I think Norway was the closest to a real hit). Combine decent song, good performance and terrific voice and Austria's Conchita was a worthy winner in a great field. Funnily enough I thought Molly was actually the worst of all the entries. Just shows what happens when TV, not music, people run the national selection process.

But as you say ITK, no chance of the UK asking for JK's assistance. Perhaps I'd better help another country.

Watched a bit of it - what a dire Saturday night set of options - just as awful as ever. Female presenters still dressed as if they're in 1958, male presenters who deludedly think they're funny, crap music, and another interminable 'hi guys, thank you got a filly wunnerful show!' voting section. For god's sake bin it once and for all.

... and why not ?

I understand that one country - Malta? - had an entry from South Yorkshire (Perhaps they thought they were in the Tour De France?)

www.southyorkshiretimes.co.uk/news/local...sion-entry-1-6610595

... and didn't a certain Canadian (Celine Dion) once sing for Switzerland?

After all, its supposed to be a song contest.

Cannot understand how the UK selection was made. They needed a current hit writer or team of writers. It was obvious a number of countries had been listening to western hits.

Talking of selections, well done JK in getting Austria at 4-1. 2 years ago you backed Sweden at 7's. Shall be looking to you for the winner of the Epsom Derby next month!, (can't be Kingman as he's no longer entered).

Reading this thread JK .. You still obviously have an eye and ear for A&R and are still interested. Do you still own UK and its back catalogue ?

Just a thought here ... why not do what you have always enjoyed and bypass the mainstream media by using your own ? .. There is some good Internet Radio software out there and I'm sure you would enjoy being your own DJ even with your brand of JK humour that I'm sure people would like to listen to

Who knows ? .. you may well be able to take off where a lot of Radio Station numbers are falling .. why bother with the BBC when you could actually be a rival and real contender once again

Kind Regards

Thanks Paul. Yes UK Records still belongs to me. I was never really a DJ - just sat in for regulars and did the odd special. I have CD/Rs of some of the shows I did in the 70s and 80s and the music is terrific. I'm just OK. So no, at nearly 70, I think my DJ days are behind me and sadly suspect my producing days are past too. But never say never, as Miss Scotland once said.

I gather no less than 19 Eurovision entrants will be in the UK Top 100 this Sunday which would be proof that the standard has been higher than ever before.

I heard a bit of the Dutch song - accidentally on YouTube - and thought it was Fleetwood Mac, maybe through a sock. But It didn't go anywhere and I couldn't understand a single word, even though it was in English. Maybe my ears are shot. I agree the UK process is awful but, come on, most of the other ones are, too, it's a terrible, terrible, evening of music. Just appalling.
