It's not only the video streamers that pay so little: So do public libraries from where you can borrow a CD for 75 pence - I wonder how much of that gets back to the copyright holders? - and of course our dear old pubs, clubs and supermarkets who pay a flat premises licence fee to PRS/PPL - and that's been happening for years!
So the next time I visit the Star in Dorking and I listen to Eclectix performing Gimme Gimme Gimme by ABBA, will another 10 pence make its way back to Mr King's coffers? I'm sure Ken's royalty statements will prove this point. Mass consumption leads to smaller margins and greater competition I'm afraid...
But it's a good job that airplay, advertising and film use licensing still pays reasonably well - doesn't it?.
