She Was A Young Girl just shows how the simplest of songs have a good impact, did you do the backing vocals on the track ?

Oh yes - I loved that track; Simon was an actor when I discovered him, and a very good one too (Tom Brown's Schooldays on TV). He went on to write most of the music for director Derek Jarman's strange movies and has become quite a cult composer.

Thanks for the info JK, would we be able to get his album on iTunes at some point in the future ?

Get more of the UK Records back catalogue out there JK.

I heard somewhere that there is nothing but legal issues with Polydor and Philips back catalogue, which is a shame there is some real classics on both labels.

Good songs, "Prettiest Star" actually better than Bowie's own. The album available on Amazon includes all the tracks.

His look and sound pre-dates Leif Garrett by some 6 years. Surprising UK couldn't get Turner away, maybe the business thought him another 'Simon Scott'.

He's done alright since though.

I'll tell you exactly why we didn't break Simon or Ricky (Wilde) before David (Cassidy) and Donny (Osmond)… it was because we got them female fans (through magazines) before the boys liked and bought the music so the males considered them "teen idols" and not to be liked in a masculine way. In those days too many (but not enough) fans of one gender killed off their appeal to the opposite gender.

How high did he get in the charts ?

Prettiest Star never really suited Bowie in my mind, I have always skipped that track.

I know wikipedia etc says otherwise, but I could have sworn that Leif Garret was around the same time as Simon Turner?

I remember him from the pictures in the music magazines of the time. Theres a picture on this link featured in issue five of "Its Here And Now" in 1973.

"... could have sworn that Leif Garret was around the same time as Simon Turner?"

I based the timing on my having been out in California in 1979 pitching songs to Garrett (via the Scotti Brothers).

I think it must be that Leif Garret was featured in the teeny magazines for his acting, same as Danny Bonaduce.
I was thrilled to see Andy and David Williams in the magazine someone posted up the thread. I was beginning to think I had imagined them.

I had Alice Cooper, Slade, T rex, Donny, the rest of the Osmonds, Michael Jackson, the rest of the Jacksons, The New Seekers, Cher, Suzi Quatro, Labi siffri, Cat Stevens, Chicory tip, Blackfoot Sue, Roxy music (although Bryan Ferry looked a proper wally in the picture) and Bowie.

When I was Tiny I had Ken Barlow, the Beatles, The Stones, Sooty and Rolf Harris.

Who did you have?

What a collage you had Honey, my dad saw Chicory Tip few months ago at a private function he said they were better than ever. Bryan Ferry always looks like a wally.

When I got pissed one day I bought a signed photo of JK on eBay and put it on my window sill the very next day.
