You are mistaking me for someone who knows anything about music Stephen! All I know is that I wrote the melody and the words and the utterly brilliant Ken Jones adored it, slowed it down, arranged it into a more mournful sound and conducted the musicians, one of whom, I believe, was a young session acoustic guitarist called Jimmy Page.

In that case, 'd plump for E flat major seventh; it sounds very slightly mournful, without, plummeting the song into complete disapair, like the Smiths' "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me".... I so sorry to hear that Morrissey has been receiving treatment for throat cancer.

But surely as publisher, lyricist and composer for this song, you must have a transcription of the arrangement locked away somewhere? Isn't that what publishers do, to avoid potential copyright disputes?

P.S. Why isn't there any footage on YouTube of yours truly performing it live?

It's definitely E flat Major seventh. E flat, A flat, D and G on the recording.

If playing on a guitar, you could have capo 3rd fret, and start on C Major seventh.

All I know is that I owe a great deal to Ken Jones, my producer (and Joe Roncoroni, his business partner and mine), and to the mighty Tony Hall (NOT the current BBC DG) who introduced me to them and to the mighty Zombies, whose marvellous tracks were also produced by Ken and were the reason for my considering him as my producer.

My take on the chord progression is as follows:

Verses: Ebmaj7, Bb, Ab... Fm7, Ab, Bb, Ebmaj7

Chorus: Gm7, Fm, Eb, Bb
