Seeing him on BBC Brekkie reminds me how I once saw him hobbling along the Bayswater Road so I stopped the Rolls and offered him a lift. Although I was almost home, I drove him to where he was heading and tried to persuade him to leave his group (Generation X) and become the first solo punk star. He was very sweet but said he'd never leave the band. It was several years later that he did leave them.

Generation X were a good punk band, Billy Idol is a great Hard rock icon.
When he performed I thought I was watching a Man Alive (one for the teenagers) feature on rent boys hooked too long on drugs. Not at all nice. Then he'd sing: like rabbit food rolled on sandpaper. I hope his book does well if only to keep him away from music.
