Mercury Winners - Young Fathers - any good? 10 Years, 7 Months ago
They very rarely are (I hate albums - excuses for not making good singles). The judges are usually tone deaf. And little baby's nearly 70.

Have now heard what's meant to be the best track on the album. Very ordinary; a bit like rap 10 years ago. But what do I know? These judges are meant to have the finest ears around. I look back on the past Mercury winners and think… I'll probably keep my own ears as they are and always were.

Gomez, Speech, The xx, James Blake - I do sometimes wonder if our music industry knows what it's doing.

But your films are like albums, Mr King.

Thank you Honey but I see them as collections of singles! I did enter Earth To King for the Mercurys. It was laughed off. I still think it's way better (and certainly more original) than most winners. Who else writes and sings songs about buggering boys and Harold Shipman? Don't get me wrong there. Nothing inappropriate with the good doctor.

No. A "collection of singles" is put together randomly (usually) whereas an album is selected to slowly change the mood and tell a story, so the films are (accidentally) more like albums (as they should be) than singles. Each song is enhanced by the one before.

If Bowie wasn't good enough for you then poor old Shipman wouldn't stand much chance!

You should have blindfolded him. He might have blindfolded himself if it was the fuzzy coloured wig period!

I know. I'm only teasing. I rather liked the wigs actually.
