OK good luck BBC Music Awards tomorrow 10 Years, 6 Months ago
Despite being annoyed that ITV dropped the highly rated Record of the Year Show (my event - so it cost me several hundred thousand a year) and irritated by the boredom every year of The Brits (I was offered £250,000 a year for 2 months work for life and turned it down in 1992 because they wouldn't let me keep running it my way); I still would like to see a regular pre-Christmas music show on TV that both boosts sales and gets massive ratings - and is entertaining, original, clever, funny, informative. Surely not that hard?

So far, 30 mins in, I'm absolutely loving it; an excellent mix, very well put together and Clean Bandit just did my Record of the Year - Rather Be - wonderfully. Incidentally, my pick for Artiste of the Year is Sam Smith.

Well. it certainly has today's biggest acts. The set's colourful if a bit cluttered and Chris Evans is possibly not the best or appropriate presenter. Gwen Stefani looks amazing (even though she isn't actually at Earl's Court).
Thankfully there's none of the chaos or daftness of the Shits, sorry, Brits.

I think it will need a bit of programming imagination to get Top of the Pops back Dixie, especially as everyone on it will be guaranteed years in jail, thirty years later.
The Awards Show was a huge success. Fingers crossed for decent ratings. Far better than The Brits and a much better time of year for a high profile prime time show. Bet it boosts music sales over Christmas by millions as our ROTY shows did.

And we used to get 9 million for Record of the Year on ITV - and 9 million for Entertainment USA on BBC2. And almost 6 million a week for No Limits on BBC2 at 6pm.
