OK Brits - and who gives a shit? 10 Years, 3 Months ago
Well, I do. I was awarded the Best Producer in the World award several times in the 1970s. I wrote and hosted The Brits in 1987. I took over as writer and producer in 1990 and brought it back to the top over three years. I care because I love music and the global music industry. I wanted The Brits to become huge, be original (I featured then Prime Minister Thatcher crooning How Much Is That Doggy In The Window and used unsigned bands in the show), powerful in breaking British music around the world (I partnered with MTV to show the concerts all over the globe) and to be the No1 music awards show. It remains No2 (to the Grammys) and tends to look the same every year and generally bores viewers rather than sells music.

But I still hope it will break out and surprise me.

Corden needs to fuck off our screens he is on every channel. He is obnoxious, smug, arrogant, unfunny, annoying, bad writer, egoistic twat and a terrible actor.

I like him but I don't think he's doing The Brits this year anyway; isn't it Ant and Dec?

Corden's definitely gone - gone to the U.S.A. - thank goodness. The french kiss with a Radio DJ live last year plus his kow-towing to the show's producers' when cutting Adele off the year before was deplorable.

They will get bored off him very quickly, then it bit a trip for him in Australia. Maybe he should fuck off from TV altogether.

Lots of criticism that The Brits (and British music generally) has got bland and boring. I don't agree - I think it's stronger than it's been in years. However I do miss protest and intelligent lyrics and I also miss strong melodies as opposed to repeated short hooks. But I think that reflects our rapidly superficialising society. We are in 140 character world - BORED NOW is the slogan of the century (I gave Alex Day a hoodie with that embroidered on it 5 years ago).

This is our Official Brits thread - so feel free to add Brits posts and comments throughout the show and afterwards. 492 views so far - let's make it over 10,000 by close of play Thursday night.

Would you believe it - there were no "goody bags" until I took over The Brits and got my staff to ring around wealthy luxury good companies to donate freebies for the celebs.

A clue as to whether the current producer will do a good job. Watch what the stars perform. Every "new release" instead of past huge hit and you'll know the labels run the show, not the producer (the battles I had!).

First part; when will producers learn that things look and sound different on TV to how they appear in a huge auditorium? The audience is at home as well as at the event.

Part Two - well I'm really out of the loop but the singers aren't singing the songs I hoped to hear. I have no idea what that Sam Smith song was (lots of ooo-ooo-ooohs) and I thought Taylor Swift made some rather catchy hits but this wasn't catchy at all. Have the producers (as I suspected - above) allowed label bosses to dictate which songs (new releases) are being sung? God save us if Madonna does her new stuff instead of the classics. And they really haven't rehearsed the sound of the crowd; distant and echoey. We spent ages perfecting "audience response" - ad libs are best well rehearsed. I suspect these amateurs really believe "it will all happen live". Oh dear. Like everyone, they have fallen for the media image we all carefully constructed.

Oh dear even Ant and Dec are awful; not everyone knows about the Kanye/Beyonce thing guys. And of course the lack of rehearsal means it sounds like the crowd aren't amused at all (to be fair they probably weren't but for God's sake fake it, sound guys, or Ant and Dec look like they are dying).

So far The Brits (as usual) look like Best Intentions but no appeal to the masses.

Part whatever (so many breaks - don't you hate ITV?) silly chat with a couple of pleasant but brain dead bimbos; you have to plan every second guys; don't waste a single second of prime time TV when you could be selling music. I bet Carter USM and Adrian Boss remembers JK fondly. There's not one single track I want to purchase on downloads so far. What a wasted opportunity. Millions of old hits, new hits, obscure gems could be getting downloaded through iTunes this moment if JK was still the Brits producer.

The sound is piss poor and needs to held at the Albert Hall or something. Taylor Swift is a hit and miss for me, Ed nice enough lad but bit twee for me. Royal Blood were great and P Faith needs a fucking slap.

Some bimbo who needs a good dentist collects Best Bimbo Award - Pirhana Faith? Seems amazed she's not still being arrested. I'm off to Wolf Hall; may catch the rest on ITV + 1.

They might as well have muted the entire Kanye West performance - I notice the N word still made it past the censors.

Shit was uncensored also, it was a shit performance get Lil Jon next time or Public Enemy.

George Ezra was brilliant as always.

Sam Smith needs his bollocks dropped. He is ripping off Bronski Beat.

Well Kanye on +1 was Audio Muted and impossible to listen to. Looked awful too. Like a bad musical staging.

Madonna steals the show, despite a nasty fall she puts on a great performance.

Take That do a non song. Must be selected by the label. No way to run a TV show.
