Australia announces the singer but not the song. They really haven't got a clue, have they? Any country. The essential is the song. Yes, the singer matters but it's very much secondary. Still, for me, my best Entrant was Just A Little Bit but Gina G was not good enough as a performer so I got Katrina, who was wonderful with a less good song, Love Shine A Light.
No clear winner yet (unlike Sweden with Euphoria and JK £700 richer) but a couple I reckon would be good bets. Actually a much improved collection of entries; several top of 2nd division. After I've placed my bets (small ones, great odds) I'll let you know my punts.
I fear it will not be the United Kingdom.
Horrible song. Sad that the presenter hadn't done his Eurovision revision. Jemini were not the second duet to enter for the UK. They forgot about Bardo and "One Step Further".
UK entry not too bad but very derivative and like a million other songs. The kind of song that would have been in our final six but would not have been chosen, I suspect.
OK my £20 went at 16-1 on Slovenia (pretty good) and £10 at 33-1 on Cyprus - Elvis Costello sings Sam Smith, but rather good. That's not yet having heard all the entries.
No, it's dreadful. Sounds like the Charleston. Dave Mindel's a nice bloke and it's par for the course that this type of traditional songwriter would fit with the selection methods of the BBC.
Watching the traditional TV interviews (BBC Brekkie this morning) brings nostalgia for my time in charge with Love City Groove, Ooh Aah Just A Little Bit, Love Shine A Light, Imaani and others. You can see, looking back, how my route was "find the song" whilst others since have chosen different ways.
Once the BBC sees sense and makes me Director-General the first thing I'll do is cancel our involvement in this godawful annual vomit of naffness. I will then instruct the Controller of BBC One to replace it in the schedules with an annual BBC live concert by a top British star or group who actually have talent. Oh yes, and I'll cancel Casualty, too, but I can't give away any more at this stage.
There's quite a buzz for a track called Heroes that's in the Swedish national final tonight Saturday. It's not bad but nowhere near as good as Euphoria was at the same stage a few years ago; I put £100 on Loreen then and won £700. To these tired old ears, Slovenia's entry is better and I like Cyprus as an outsider. If either of them win I make £340.
