She and Tony Hatch were a terrific song writing team. I believe she was first produced by my very first producer John Schroeder (who, last time we lunched, was very successfully inventing board games).
Very sad to hear this news. I always liked both her and her ex-husband, Tony Hatch's songwriting. (In fact, until I read the news last night, I wasn't aware that they had split up a few years ago. A shame in itself). They were both very much connected with the midland's ATV network in the late 1960s/early 1970s, (including New Faces). Jackie Trent also sang the theme tune to the Rupert The Bear TV series.
Before anybody else points out my error, Rupert The Bear was sung by Jackie Lee, not Jackie Trent. (I've hummed/sung this tune for 30+ years constantly under the impression it was a Jackie Trent song). Just goes to prove you can learn something new every day. (And I don't know anything about Jackie Lee, so off to Wiki next!).
White Horses was by Jackie Lee too, but under the credit Jacky.
(Something else I leant today!)
Rupert and White Hores are two wonderful TV themes from the 1960/70s.
I still can't believe I got Rupert wrong, as I've been a fan of Jackie Trent and Tony Hatch for years. (But I was a fan of ATV and had a number of friends who worked at the ATV centre in Broard Street, Birmingham. The place, only build in the late 1960s has been boarded up for about 20 years. I went there to see The Golden Shot being made (live) in the 1970s and in the 1980s, Bullseye.)
Sad to hear it's been boarded up; I did The Golden Shot there. Almost didn't as Equity blocked me unless I joined. I did and am still a fully paid up member (for no real reason; TV won't book me any more, now I'm a Vile Pervert). I think it was Lazybones I did on that, with Bob telling me it was "the best record ever".
The great thing about the Golden Shot was it was live. (It had to be because in the first round, people phoned in to direct the arrow. I remember one of the shows I went to had Lyndsey De Paul as a guest.
Ant and Deccould reintroduce the feature as part of their live Saturday Night Show!
I understand the ATV Centre was recently demolished - some entertainment historians (including a friend of JK's) were allowed to visit the place and take photos before the bulldozers moved in.
It was boarded up for nearly 20 years. I last walked past it in December and wondered what was going to happen to it. By coincidence today it has been announced HSBC are moving their UK head quarters to the site. So the old Midland Bank is moving home!
(Amazing how the thread has moved on from Jackie Trent).
