So there I was, running Decca for the first time as a favour to my friend the owner Sir Edward Lewis. I'd persuaded Mick Jagger that, although there was a serious dispute between The Rolling Stones and Decca, it would be in everyone's interest to have a single released. I got into my office one morning to find an acetate on my desk with a note from Mick saying "JK - you asked for a hit. I've given you two - one on each side. The only reservation is they both must be No1".

No problem, I decided. One was Honky Tonk Women. The other You Can't Always Get What You Want. The double A side topped the chart a few weeks later.
