Rather than play the obvious Take Good Care of My Baby to illustrate Bobby Vee singing Goffin/King they played How Many Tears, rarely heard but great fun.

And The Brook Brothers. I'd forgotten all about The Brook Brothers. Sounds of the 60s is SO good. Warpaint. Ain't Gonna Wash For A Week. Magic.

The only thing is, and I'm sure Phil Swern does his best, some tracks are stereo rather than the original mono.

He annoyed me this week with a re-recording of It's Over; Orbison always sings it perfectly, but this just wasn't the original!

What's the point of re-recordings ?

Usually to make money, Andrew - when the original copyright does not belong to the artiste (which is usual).

I really enjoy hearing the stereo versions of original recordings as for me stereo adds another dimension to these familiar hits, particularly when listened to on headphones.

I recently purchased the new collection of original Herman's Hermits hits on the Bear Family label which are newly mixed to stereo, having previously only been available in mono. They sound fantastic!

Ah the mighty Micky Most, a very under rated producer, deserving of a BPI award.

And this week one of the classics (rarely heard) She's About A Mover - Sir Douglas Quintet

And today Carole King "It Might As Well Rain Until September": that double-tracking ... out of tune, out of sync but so beautiful. Then Joni Mitchell "Night In The City", hot guitar player, great lyricist and, after some Barbra Streisand schmaltz, a good Swinging Blue Jeans cover "You're No Good".
