which I tend to do for basics (butter, bread etc) and reached the checkout desk.
There was a young man in front of me - can't have been much over 20, black, very hip hop, little beard, very cool clothes... buying the new Beatles mix CD.
"Glad to see the young still appreciate the music of my generation" I said.
I continue to chatter to everyone despite the prosecution at my trial wrongly claiming it was inspired by carnal motives.
"Oh hello Jonathan", he said with a big smile, "My Mum bought me the anthology some time ago and I've been a fan ever since. Do you think it'll be good?".
"With George behind it at least it won't be bad", I replied.
Somehow I found it very exhilarating that 1) good music still crosses all age, colour and taste boundaries and 2) that total strangers are still almost always so nice.

I cannot disagree MM, the cash still burns a hole in kids pockets, but the choice of products is now too wide.
Perhaps we should be looking at a single in MP3 format, vinyl format, and an interactive video/game "pet" that fits in your pocket and needs several plays an hour to remain in the top twenty.
Oh dear , I think I have just invented the future of the chart!
