Shifting units, current no.1 album 10 Years, 3 Months ago
Paul Simon's Ultimate Collection hit number one on the official album chart with 15.487 sales. Only 313 were downloads. Must be selling somewhere when there can't be many retail outlets (esp. chart retailers) these days.
May well give naive hope to misguided music industry veterans who hanker for the days of shifting units.

Sounds like a generational thing to me, the majority of people listening to him are from the vinyl/CD era. Does the downloads figure also include streaming?

I do wonder who of the physical format buying generation doesn't already have a greatest hits of his though, I'm pretty sure there's been a few.

Meanwhile the new singles top 100 contains no older songs and has not done so since they changed the rules. Previously there were always one or two advert or tv related oldies in the lower regions.

I got this last Friday. A good choice of tracks on one CD. As someone who still listens to CDs, this works well, even though I've got all the tracks on the original albums.

I think one of the reasons is that Paul was the consummate sound person; his tracks are incredibly clean, bright and sonic. I played them to Tommy, Alex and Charlie in trying to teach them the value of music sound. So brand new CDs, of top quality, without the scratches and skips that seem to arrive within weeks of buying a CD, replace older ones if we can afford to duplicate.
