Distressing or elating? 18 Years, 5 Months ago
That 35% of the Sony/BMG annual profits come from Simon Cowell's Syco?

8 people run that.

How many does the rest of the company employ?

Judging by the amount of very nice people I come accross in the daytime, in my usually empty office, apart from me a dog and a typist, quite a lot actually.

Distressing for SonyBMG to be so reliant on so few.

Elating for musicians as it shows "small" can succeed.

Very elating for Mr Cowell

Yes I must say Zoo, Simon has proved pure economic v.f.m it would appear.
I feel sorry for the staff when this wallops into the press.

Ties nicely with a thread on ROTD Yesterday, obviously that person knew before he/she posted. Could I have been debating with the man himself?

I agree D Jones, but needs must sometimes. We sold our EMI shares because we had to at the time, but in that case, it would appear to have been ok.

JK, I think anyone has to look at that percentage as to how it ties into Television and Simon Fuller to get the clear view of that.

Trouble is - you get what you pay for.
So instant TV success is superficial.
Huge but transitory sales and profits.
Fine but those who nurture and develop and build are not given time so they leave the majors or never go there in the first place.

Just shows how hugely profitable POP can still be !

Should someone point this out to other record company execs?
