Love the brass on Cheerleader by OMI 10 Years ago
One of the best tracks around at the moment because of that superb syncopated trumpet - CANNOT be a fake synthesiser - must be the real thing; no computer could fake that rhythm and style.

And can someone let me know how different the remix is from the original and also how Syco become involved?

The original is on Spotify JK (link below) and is slower and more rooted in Reggae. Notably it doesn't have the trumpet (although it has sax).

I cringed when I first heard it due to the "cheerleader", "need her" rhyme but fell in love with that trumpet too, definitely a major draw for this song it seems.

There's a connection with Felix and Tyler Brown (senior A&R Manager for Sony) but I'm not sure if it existed before this track or not.

Also, the remix was originally released by Ultra Records who are affiliated with Sony. Prior to this all of Felix's originals and remixes were self-released.

I guess that's it, Felix came up trumps with his remix, Ultra picked it up and it blew up from there.

A proper hit?!

Oh yes a truly proper hit; this and CHAWKI are my favourites this summer. It's the trumpet that makes it; slightly odd and out of time yet not; very clever and catchy and original. Ken Bruce this morning was saying he hated the trumpet. I think it's very much a Marmite hook; all the best ones are.

Little Joe (who has just become a Daddy - congratulations) says adding brass riffs is a current trick on these kinds of remixes. But not as well done as this, I suspect.

The trumpet for elders like Ken Bruce is possibly too reminiscent of Ken Thorne and "The Legion's Last Patrol", deftly played with feeling by Ray Davies (of The Button Down Brass, not The Kinks).

I think it's superb; a real illustration of "production". It is so catchy and different and odd. Makes the rather pedestrian melody come to life. It was one of those when the first time I heard it I thought SMASH. The CHAWKI took a few listens; then I fell totally in love with his singing of the Arabic words.
