It's only the hits that matter - everything else is industry fizzle.

The X Factor wants / expects its "stars" to fade (about nine months after they win - to make room for the "next one")

Exactly. Why would you want a series of middle of the chart hits when you can have a series of number ones?

I don't know why anyone expects people in the music industry (Cowell in particular) to be loyal to its musicians.
We don't expect the same solidarity from plumbers or mechanics.

I seem to remember rumours circulating around the time of "Bleeding Love" that Simon had put on hold plans for Leona to tour due to her poor stage presence, something illustrated in the "One More Sleep" X Factor performance linked on this article.

These rumours might explain why she never got the hit songs for the following album, top songwriters want to back the all round winner.

"Fire Under My Feet" doesn't do it for me and doesn't sound that current either. Sound wise it's like Christina Aguilera 5-10 years ago, only not as strong. Sorry Toby, but you can do much better than this.

Interesting that the writer of this article considers, "Oops! I Did It Again" to be just as great as, "Baby One More Time". "Oops!" may be another top pop song from Max but in a different league IMO.

Personally I think Simon wanted/wants for the X-Factor to discover and launch an international megastar and he believed that Leona was the one, but even someone as influential as Simon can't make it happen without the support.

I did hear insider rumours last year after the album was completed that it was going to put her back on top and it still might. The first single has flopped for many but they've gone from strength to strength after that, let's wait and see (and stop revelling in putting the boot in).

I have to say, Bleeding Love was a real hit - great song - but Leona was simply another Mariah lookalike/soundalike to me and those singers always have more technique than soul. Now Beverley Knight - there's a great singer who deserved to be far bigger than she was/is.
