WMGs 4th quarter figures....Digital revenue grows 96% to $104 million or 12% of total revenue 18 Years, 5 Months ago
There's a copy of the full WMG 4th quarter report in PDF across on the Record of the Day website and what I would love to know is what the breakdown of their digital revenue is like.

The linked PDF doesn't go into that detail..it just gives a one lump figure for digital recording and publishing revenue.

"Digital revenue from Music Publishing amounted to $7 million, which represents 5.5% of total Music Publishing revenue for the quarter."

"Recorded Music digital revenue of $97 million grew 106% over the prior-year quarter and represented 13.3% of total Recorded Music revenue"

Any WMG employees out there willing to chip in even ball park figures?

e.g. what % were catalogue compared to new music, what % was full album downloads compared to individual track sales etc.?

The most interesting figure hidden in the report is the change in digital revenue in the 3. Quarter 06 compared to the 2. Quarter 06: ONLY PLUS 13 PER CENT!

So is the digital boom already over?

the digital boom is only just getting going, DJones. It took just over 14 years for people to fully embrace the idea of using email to communicate.

The ecommerce boom predictions in the late 90s caught a few analysts on the hop and many lost their shirts from the dotcomedown that followed. Ironically their predictions were correct. They were just a few years out.

I think things are only just getting going and I maybe wrong, but, my guess is that WMG digitral revenue is probably old catalogue and individual tracks.

They point out in their quarterly's that they didn't have as many relases out as last year, which suggests that it might be simply people topping up their mp3 players with old favourites.
