I fear Chris on radio and TV, now doing far too much, has decided it's not what he says that matters but the way he says it. So he's full of enthusiasm and energy, terribly positive and over the top about the most mundane matters (this morning calling a radio scheduler a genius) without any concern for the content. Both radio and TV contain numerous dreadful children including his own (children rarely if ever work in the media). He bounces and raves like a puppy with rabies. And unfortunately, as always, nobody around him dares tell him the truth.

I think he is hugely talented, but he has been suffering from upyourselfitis for a while.

I don't listen to radio 2 (why would you when we have radio 4), however I find his use of interviewing children a little bit creepy.

I hate him with a passion and feel Top Gear may be the straw that breaks the camels back. Robbie, why is he creepy?

I know exactly what Robbie means; there's something patronising and slightly creepy about all that "aren't children cute when they are being children?" stuff and there is SO much of it. It really is not funny, cute or entertaining "How much would you mark yourself out of ten? Eleven! Hahahaha". The fact that he can't see it's awful is what is frightening.

The thing about Evans, for me, that concerns is that he doesn't really seem to 'feel' things. It's as if he has to tell himself what a feeling he should have, and then, like a robot, he approximates to it. He's one of those characters who runs about telling himself something's 'fun,' so he makes himself grin a lot and really, really, really tries hard to HAVE 'fun'. But I fear, inside, there's nothing there. Just an echoey chamber. When he plays music, when he interviews someone, whatever it is, it's as if the idea is kickstarting the emotion: 'This is something to feel excited about, so get yourself excited!' It makes me quite sad observing it. He means well, I think, but there's not much there, deep down, beneath all the bluster.

Funnily enough Pru that is almost exactly what I was going to put at the end of my post above; his constant use of children being "cute" reeks of the fact that he doesn't actually find them cute (even his own son) but thinks he OUGHT to find them cute.

I think you're spot on.

It's sad, because I don't think he's a bad person at all, he means well, but there's just something missing in his make up. Every now and again The One Show or something similar will show one of those 'Laughter Therapy' weekends or a variation on it, where people laugh really forcibly in order, supposedly, to feel like they're finding something funny. I always think, 'That's Chris'.
