All much higher standard than usual (Division 2 as opposed to Division 5) but not a hit there which may not matter as most Eurovision winners are not hits. Funnily enough they all sound almost exactly the same as each other and all sound as though Hugh Goldsmith picked them (Billie; Martine; Blue etc).
For me the stand out song is You're Not Alone by Joe and Jake. It had me waving my arms around. If the staging is innovative, I think this could do very well. Also, Joe and Jake are very cute!
I thought they were probably the best two; a friend commented that Miracle is crying out for a Dance remix. My problem with both is I hate those oo oo oh oh aa aa things.
My friend Katrina (time we had another catchup lunch) was so great 19 years ago when I ran things. Hope she sings our winning Kimberley Rew song Love Shine A Light.

It wasn't very good live, was it? It is annoying because in my head I can hear a really good song with a different production.
And probably different singers.
Oh dear; the BBC must have been wondering when Katrina sang Love Shine A Light why JK isn't picking the songs for Eurovision anymore; so far superior to the six before it. Well I would say that, wouldn't I? But even my flops (Just a Little Bit - Love City Groove) were of a higher standard - I think.
Actually a pretty good, entertaining show - lovely to see Terry (the stories I could tell you of our years in Eurovision). But the only thing missing was great songs - or a great song - in our entries. I fear Bianca will win (it has all the ingredients without any quality) but let us see. The winner is...
Joe and Jake.
Well, the best one won; now let's see if it can be transformed into a winner.
I agree we didn't have any potential winners to choose from tonight.
The BBC should have used representing the UK at Eurovision as part of the prize for winning the Voice, and had 4 of the 6 songs written or co-written by the Voice judges. A song written by Will I Am would sound completely different to one written by Ricky Wilson, so we wouldn't be presented with 6 identikit songs, and we might even stand a chance of getting a real winner.
I enjoyed the show and I liked the way each act was asked to choose their favourite lyric from their song, after all it is a song contest. However I thought the expert panel seemed more interested in the performances than the songs. Carrie said at the start that she was looking for an anthem but she didn't say later whether she thought any of the songs met that criteria.
For me the best song won (see second post above) however I think the staging needs a lot of work. I think the stage needs a lot more colour and interest, and I think someone needs to be playing a piano which is the main instrument you can hear at the start. Perhaps a brightly-coloured piano and lots of flowers everywhere?
I can't find any information on the composers (Schwartz, Benson & Kanes); could this be a pseudonym? I remember in years gone by the winning composers used to collect medals at the end of A Song For Europe.
Cannot stand Eurovision. It's the FIFA of light entertainment. Blatter could host it now - it's even more pompous, over-long and sickeningly self-congratulatory than one of his old Champions League draw ceremonies. But, as far as the UK is concerned, if they really must persist with such nonsense, surely the real work should be on putting better means in place to find a good song. Yes, you need to find a great act to sell it, but the bedrock has to be the song.
