It came from The Sun and I reckon it's bollocks (read closely) but here's the BBC link...

I`d love to believe it`s true, but I`m afraid the "B" word is echoed from here as well.

The story is quite true inasmuch as the BBC have approached Morrissey about the Eurovision. Whether he would actually agree to do it is another issue, of course. I rather doubt it. The Scissor Sisters were also rumoured as being possible UK participants. Even less likely.

What this proves .... 18 Years, 4 Months ago
is that the UK has a death wish when it comes to Eurovision. Morrisey is one of the most depressing singers in the history of music and there's no way he'd be able to win the contest for us.

Ah yes but Cat... 18 Years, 4 Months ago
..Don`t forget that if we win it we have to pay to host it next time!
Does everyone remember the "My Lovely Horse" Father Ted episode, in which Ireland were deliberately trying to lose?
I have allways felt that if the UK used our very best writers every year we would allways win, but thats not what Eurovision is about.
It needs to remain "Europop".
Can Mozza do this? Who can say.Only him.
I think you have to think "Fab Chart" to think "Eurovision", personally.

As the last person to organise a UK Eurovision win... 18 Years, 4 Months ago
I can tell you; winning brings in millions!

I offered to pay for our HOST event myself and take the profits.
The BBC rapidly declined.

But back to Mozza, and I am genuinly a huge fan,....errm... how can I put this....he has a lovely tune and he has sung it for years, very well indeed, with many different titles.
I just can`t see his lyrics working at Eurovision, and if he does do it, it will be a mickey take that only the faithful partake of the joke with him.
That said, it could broaden a lot of horizons of thought in pop music.

Maybe you're onto something there. Perhaps those behind the FAB Chart could be asked to run the Eurovision. If anybody knows who they are.

Or maybe we could just enter Cliff again.

Bookies taking this seriously 18 Years, 4 Months ago
William Hill's odds on a UK Eurovision victory have been slashed from 40/1 to 14/1. It appears that Morrissey is genuinely interested in writing a song, though I think it unlikely that he would agree to perform it.

And as for JK's post, he is quite right. It always amused me that host nations of the Eurovision moaned so much, when the financial benefits were so obvious. He did indeed call a host nation's bluff, and how quickly did they retreat!
