George Martin 90 RIP 9 Years, 3 Months ago
Lovely man, decent producer though not as great as many attribute. George was a fellow Man of the Year from the British Music Industry and congratulated me heartily when I was given the Award.

It depends what you expect from a producer. He wasn't a producer-artist in the Spector style. Unlike many ego-driven producers, he listened - not just to the music but, prior to that, to the artists. He didn't impose himself on a recording and make it all about him. But he was thoughtful, perceptive, sympathetic and imaginative, and he helped artists to be the best that they could be. That was subtle and un-flashy, but, for me, great.

Agreed Pru; I've said this on the other thread. Much as I was with 10cc; adding extra missing talents to the mix. Yes George was terrific with that - as he was with Peter Sellers (much forgotten).

Yes. I think George was perfect for great artists who were full of ideas (but not always much of a sense of how to refine or use them). He needed that. The genius of other producers, such as your good self, was to be able to make a great record with artists who didn't have much to contribute other than, perhaps, a decent voice and a distinctive image. Dear George would have been bemused and bored by the likes of Britney and Bieber. Having said that, one only needs to look at the mess that Spector made of The Beatles to appreciate how clever George could be. There's magic in the best of bother types of producer.
