If Koopa aren't the first unsigned band to have a top 40... 18 Years, 4 Months ago
who is?
I'd imagine its something like a football record but couldnt be sure...but with these accusations flying around does anybody have a definate answer to which band was the first unsigned band to score a UK Top 40 hit in the singles chart
I think you'll find a HUGE 70's band... 18 Years, 4 Months ago
Father Abraphart and the Smurps charted at 58 in 1978 on flexi disc alone.
Not only was it "unsigned", it was "unpressed".
After charting, to the fury of the chart compilers, it was signed up and released on traditional Magnet vinyl by Michael (Lord Checkpoint) Levy who always had an eye for a dodgy wheeze.
