TOPIC: FAB chart

FAB chart 18 Years, 3 Months ago
JK's Silver Stoat goes up one place to No 2 - undaunted by a little bit of negative publicity... as ever.

Slightly surprised to see an "oldie" from Chumbawamba with Tubthumping in at 8

For those who want something a bit more serious musically there is Ode To The Fallen Heroes by Daniel Rachel new at No 6

The other new entry at 10 is Ya-Zeet by Shizzle

Pleased to see Onionsound moving up a couple too.

I must admit the online shop was a surprise, as was "Tubthumping"s entry.

Yes, the negative comments seem to have been pushed into the past while the FABBERS move on. I expect the person who made the comments hoped to see JK slumping down the chart, or even out of it, but the site does say "putting music first" and that's what they seem to be doing.

There's a lot of real good stuff in the FAB Chart at the moment. I wouldn't like to try guess who'll be next week's Number One.

The online shop is one of those cafepress ones which are free to open and run. The items are already provided by the cafepress people and you just submit your own designs, set your own profit margin and rake in the money (if anybody buys anything). It's a "can't lose" situation, so a good idea.

Who knows ... maybe the FAB Chart will become one of the cult movements of the early 21st century.

I was surprised the shop is in dollars - I'd assumed the FAB Chart was British... maybe it is.

The prospect of high postage from the US put me off ordering, though I think I'll have a look later to see what P&P is as I would like to offer some support to them as I like what they're doing.

Oh Cat... as I seem to be double posting after you, next week I won't start a FAB thread but wait and then invade yours

It's a bit strange on one hand I'd like to know more about those behind the chart but on the other I like not knowing - bit like when you see somebody from the radio and they don't look like they should, it's a bit disappointing

Talking in a similar chart vein, I thouroughly enjoyed Tony Blackburns` 70`s chart last night on the freeview box.
Obviously it was limited to records that had videos attached to them but how ironic it was to see the Buggles near the top!

I didn't see that 70s chart. I guess the Buggles track was "Video Killed The Radio Star". I still have that on vinyl; wonderful B side too, but my favourite Buggles track was "Adventures in Modern Recording which came out in 1983(ish).

Re. The FAB Chart, I see there is now a link to a UK shop but the prices are in Euros, probably to accomodate the wider Europe market. I suppose, being an internet chart, it will get visitors from all over the world.

We had a Buggles thread a couple of years back and I loudly proclaimed that I only liked "Video", which caused outrage!
But I still stand by that quote, I really don`t like their album at all.
Whilst on the subject of the Buggles, I have a song by a band called the Jags on vinyl, ("I`ve Got Your Number"), which Trevor Horn and his mate re-produced and made into a hit. The change was remarkable, and I re-bought the newer version.
I have two copies of course still, it`s amazing how only one of them sounds like a hit due to subtle changes.
The other sounds like a demo.

The Adventures In Modern Recording era did have strong echoes of their association with the band YES. This was after the Age Of Plastic LP and, I think, far superior.

I saw an interview with Trevor Horn in which he indicated that he regretted the Yes tour, particularly after a heckler shouted out during a quiet moment in a show. Assuming this did not happen on every show, I can pin down the time and place of this moment due to my attendance of the gig.

Were you the heckler?

I knew somebody would ask that! No I wasn`t but I know the guy who was very well, and I was very embarrased, he did the same thing when the Radiators From Space (remember them?) supported Thin Lizzy. The mismatch from hell.
In fact , that is the crux of the debate!
Buggles ? Yes?

Nah!

Radiators from Space had some good singles on Chiswick, like "Million Dollar Hero".

The only one I have is "Enemies". I do like bands where the songs appeared to have been paramount before anything else.
The Proclaimers are another example of this.
