I had a girl punk band version of "My Sharona" which did actually sound a lot like that track. I played it regularly on my show in the afternoons, and then one day a guest complained that it was terrible, so I let him have his views on air about it and ended up agreeing and never played it again. I would be intrigued of anyone finding out who the track was by for comparison as I no longer have it.
