Researching a recent report of Myspace hacking, I've found two interesting pieces of information.
1. People can "hack" MySpace in order to download your Mp3's at their full bit-rates. Apparently it's done using another popular application and is very wide-spread.
My advice: Upload low quality Mp3s. They get reduced for play-back anyway so the only difference it will make will be that if someone does download your Mp3 it won't be high quality.
2. There's a program which allows people to
hack into your Myspace site. It gives access to passwords & Email addresses so they can get in, change what they like and happily send Emails from your account. It took me five minutes to locate it, it's freely available.
Check the other board , this just happened to ourselves.
Even more disturbing, after uploading to Myspace many times, the hack would appear to be a quicker system than the genuine uploading scheme.
We had a song "changed" within 20 minutes of listening to it with friends.
Given that there are now several hundred million My Space accounts I don't think we need worry about this too much !'Bloody stupid' quote of the day.
Do you honestly think people stumble across artists/labels sites by accident? A lot of people are using it for promotion and driving as much traffic there as they can. They're also safe in the knowledge that their music isn't being ripped off.
Do you honestly think My Space makes any difference at all?
Everyone in the world has a MS site these days - get real!
A&R are far too busy to trawl through millions of sites just in case they come across something interesting (if it were really interesting they would have been alerted via another route anyway).
61 hits in an hour or so MM, on an uplaoded hacked track with our name on it, that wasnt anything to do with us, I was pretty worried I can tell you mate.

As I said previously, people are using it as a promotion tool for the general public. Just about every label has their artists on it.

It's just full of gullibles who know no better.
I used to think the same thing.......my opinion is changing. I'm not talking about random trolling either. I know labels that have myspace budgets, and a person on staff sitting there for a certain amount of daily time, pushing a particular page. Kids would rather visit a myspace music page than a website. It will be interesting to see where it all ends up.
I`m obviously a little bit wary of Myspace currently, but the airplay we achieved in December was all Myspace generated without a doubt, the visits to the official site were nothing in comparison.
Sadly, this week I have learned you have to keep a weary bored eye to it though.
