TOPIC: The Brits

The Brits 18 Years, 3 Months ago
OK here we go.

Does anyone agree with me that ALL Awards Shows need radical change?
The old format simply doesn't work as a TV entertainment.
What's more - it never did.

When I took over The Brits (after presenting them, scripting and naming them in 1987) after the 1989 Sam/Mick fiasco, I wanted it to be live (the only interesting ingredient is "who's won?"). They wouldn't allow it - it's taken 18 years!

My GREAT BRITISH MUSIC WEEKEND - three nights at Wembley,

Personally I hate awards ceremonies they are very numbing on my behind and I don`t like pally back slapping.

I am meeting one of the acts that are going tonight for lunch, but I have stuck with my desicsion(spell check please editor) of developing and finding acts which is what I will continue doing in London tonight.
That all said, if I was at home , the show would be on, but probably only in the background, if I went, I would be bored awaiting the next performance.
I really dislike the phrase...."and the nominees are...", the suspense kills nothing in me except my tired abdomen.
The Brits do wonders for the industry in sales, don`t get me wrong,I appreciate this, this is my personal view and I am going to see a band that will be there in a couple of years time instead.
There you go, I didnt mention I don`t like the compere much once.

JK you miss the point.

The problem with this year's Brits is that nobody knows any of the music names because the non specialist artist is dead.

Why? Because of the death of Top of the pops and the charts.

awards ceremonies now should include live phone polls, sophie anderton and a judge that is 'nasty' but in a camp pantomime bad guy sort of way!

Paul is right ... 18 Years, 3 Months ago
there are (almost) no mainstream media any longer, and no mainstream music stars.

Award / chart shows can only work if the are targeted at a special audience / genre / niche.

Variety: Music specials becoming extinct in info age 18 Years, 3 Months ago
www.variety.com/article/VR1117959125.html

"Music tastes are so fragmented, it's very difficult to garner a mass audience," says ABC alternative/specials topper Andrea Wong. "You try, because these are big, big artists. But it's hard."
Observers believe "Idol" reaches a broad audience only because it's "not really about music," as one Big Four suit puts it. "It's a great soap opera that has music as a thread."

Re:The Brits 18 Years, 3 Months ago
Mmmmm..."The Brits"! The world wide approach IS the only way forward now as far as I can see simply because music is available world wide. Does anyone really care if the music is British or from anywhere else for that matter just so long as it's good? In the grander scheme of things, I think not.

Commenting (briefly) on the Brits, the speaker on the foremost radio channel in Belgium (NRJ) said, "Amy Winehouse, I wonder who she is?". I sympathise with him.

for the insiders, the winners are obvious... but I do feel that for Mighty Joe Public, the winners come as a suprise... which is a good thing...

i think there should be some grand changes to be made to make things a bit interesting for everyone, us included...

the idea of it being live and dangerous, with a trigger happy f*ck button guy was laughable... and nothing too outrageous did happen... where's brandon block when you need him?!?!
