I don't know how accurate this is, but it makes interesting reading.
I'm still a big fan of vinyl.

And this comes at a time when Sony records have limited the number of physical copies of Cliff Richard's new Christmas single to 500 (sold out in half a day). A bonkers idea, especially when many older Cliff fans don't have the ability to play digital tracks. Somebody at Sony didn't think that through properly.
* although I'm remembering the words of a certain King of Hits - "If Paul McCartney can do it, anybody can".

The story is correct. The VALUE of the sale of vinyl albums was greater than the value of albums downloaded last week. A fantastic achievement considering how it was just a few years ago.

But a few things worth noting. The volume of sales was higher for download albums, due to the cost of a download being significantly lower than the price of a vinyl album. Also, the analysis is just based on album sales. Not physical singles v download tracks.

Still only a fraction of the sales from the 80s'. Download sales have gone down because you can stream them for free on Spotify and other services. I don't know why you would download.
CDs still outsell vinyl. The quality is much better. I guess that it is mainly djs buying vinyl because it is easier to mix or people buying for nostalgia reasons.

Yes interesting; just had several absolutely enormous cheques thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack - point one; sold millions globally on CD as well as on downloads (and, possibly, cassette - in joke for those who saw the excellent movie). Took forever to reach me mind you - these days of computers don't seem to have speeded up royalty deliveries. Second - great 60s music; miles better than in 2016 (again; watch the movie). And of course, whether or not Hooked On A Feeling is included on the Movie 2 Soundtrack; everyone hearing Ooga Chagga on the trailers is reminded of the first film.
