Top of the Pops - The story of 1983 7 Years, 3 Months ago
www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b087lmbd/t...ps-the-story-of-1983

Great show documenting the story of top of the pops in 1983, when pops stars were bright and colourful and many of the hits of the time are now regarded as pop classics, such as "Every Breath you Take", "True", "Club Tropicana", "Love Cats", and even "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo.

Just a shame that they omitted featuring the American chart insert introduced by Johnathan King, whilst showing the much less successful European chart, and Asian Chart features. It also featured the memorable New Order live appearance of Blue Monday, which looked and sounded terrible.

Yes I was offended but not surprised Robbie. The BBC really needs to get its morality stance together.

Though the US Charts segment was dropped when BBC One started up blessed EastEnders in February 1985 and TOTP was cut - fatally - to 29 minutes every week (it was a shadow of its former self between 86 & 90 though always essential viewing), it was dropped just as the US 'Giants' such as Prince, Madonna & Springsteen were starting to dominate the charts over here, after many years of the UK charts being mainly UK acts.
Looking back on it now, it's the big differences that makes the JK slot such a loss now - it is historically important, even if it did admittedly often shake the 'flow' of TOTP back in the day.
