The Jam reform without Weller... 18 Years, 3 Months ago
Does anyone else agree that without Tall Fella, this is one reunion that seems a little pointless.

I mean, the guy WAS The Jam!

Does anyone know who's fronting the band now?

It'll be interesting to see how the fans react to this news.

Adios,
Pete

On Ceefax yesterday they reported that Paul Weller had been invited to join the tour but that he hasn't yet commented. So maybe he's still thinking about it.

I notice the Police are back together for a world tour.

I was never much of a fan of either, but they do have some kind of cult status now.

I have to tell you - when I met Weller I found him one of the most unpleasant young men I'd ever encountered.

He's probably better now he's very old and is a wrongly accused rapist.

Long standing Jam fan (first saw em in 1977 then at least 25 times more), totally disagrees. Seen The Gift/Jam 8 times last year including the 'reunion' in Brighton, they DON'T need Weller if any anything the bands better with Russell fronting it, more give it some and go for it and none of Wellers sulky attitude.

A friend once encountered Mr Weller and came a way with the distinct impression that he was/is a total wanker.

As for the Jam sans Weller - Hmmmm after-all Bruce Foxton was such a song writing powerhouse wasn't he

Sometimes these people should put dignity before money and leave our youthful dreams intact.

I seem to remember a story in about 1978 in which the 2nd Jam album had been shelved and replaced eventually with "This Is the Modern World". There possibly could be some weight in this, most of the "B" sides that were appearing around that era were none album tracks and largely written by Bruce Foxton.
I think the writing duties were swapping around early on.
Other Bruce Foxton trivia.
On the 60`s style Rickenbacker guitar photo for the first LP, Bruce`s bass guitar is actually a copy and not a real Rick has he couldnt afford one yet.
I was most surprised when he joined SLF and won`t be at all surprised if he initiated the reunion(if it happens) himself.

The story about Foxton writing a load of songs that weren't used is one I've heard too - IRC Weller was sulking or something until he heard what was going out under the Jam name then wrote some songs PDQ.

Trivia - This is a Modern World - Weller's jumper with two arrows on it, seemed everyone had one for a while and Carnaby St churned them out.

But look at the photo again and you'll notice the arrows are black insulation tape put on a boring grey jumper.

I`ve just gone through my library, and I found a copy of "News Of the World" written by Bruce Foxton which I recall not liking and buying it blind after working my shift at a supermarket after school, one of the songs on the other side is another Foxton one called "Innocent Man".
Just looking at the title on that one I can remember it.
A truely rotten attempt at a human rights issue tune.

I didn`t buy the third album until it was past it`s sell by date when I got hold of a second hand copy, but this does illustrate the importance of A+R and quality and not quantity of releases by companies.
The situation of course was incredibly turned around by the excellent "Going Underground" and "Taxman" ooops sorry I meant "Start".
They had lost me though, and it`s not clever losing fans who rush out and buy your first record, which I did.

Doesn't Sting still look great? He's one guy I've always really liked as a person. Wonder if he's still onside.

Name drop alert!
He lives up the road, but not as close as Andy Summers did as we used to buy our strings in the same guitar shop.
I feel old.....
