UnEntitled - Cornish band 18 Years, 3 Months ago
UnEntitled from Cornwall

This lot are alright, considering they are 14 it's an exceptional start.

Not exactly hits here but certainly potential if they can find the right producer/mentor. I'd develop them if I could - somebody ought to

Good solid and unpretentious song writing. I think they could do rather well if they stick to it.

They say:
UnEntitled are a 3 (sometimes 4) piece, Indie rock band from Cornwall. They formed in August 2006 and with only two gigs under their belt, secured a place in the Revelations, Under 18, Battle of the Bands competition.

Oh dear, not for me I'm afraid Zoo.
Judging by the video - very noisy and punky!

With bands of that age it`s worth checking back to see how they are getting on, as you find that they all keep splitting up and reforming.
The band members to watch, are the driving force, who are actually planning music as a career.
I personally would pass up on this lot as I have seen many like them in the last few years, and they often split when you invest because their interests change.

They are a bit noisy true but I thought given their ages it was surprisingly competent. A fair enough start and good prospects if they keep it up.

That's something I hadn't considered Mart - watch them form and reform and see who is actually doing it. (I like Laughter Time BTW on your myspace).

In retrospect I think I've fallen a bit foul of the - it may be better than what I've heard recently but that doesn't mean it's actually any good.

I enjoyed them and wish all the best.

Judging by the audio rather than the video, they are better, for me, than the Arctic Monkeys, and have quite a together sound. Yes they are a bit loudish, but not overly, and they actually have reasonable melodies. Trouble is that such bands are ten a penny at present and they need the right encouragement, promotion, etc. to avoid being lost in the crowd.

I've known some young bands stay together for several years. Breakups can come from frustration with the industry, or from the emergence of artistic differences, but a few bands do make it.

They need to polish up their live act, but I wish these guys every success.

Hi everyone,
I run a small local promtions company in Cornwall and we are keeping a watchful eye on UnEntitled. They are as you say very young, but not noisy or overly punky. Some of there material is quite thoughtful, they recorded the more energetic tracks first as there live audince love them They are due to go into the studio this week to record two new tracks, maybe check them out see what you think.
They do need to polish their live act, but they have actually only done half a dozen gigs and we think they should mature naturally, nothing worse than a contrived band, They capture perfectly the mood of their peer group.
The driving force, songwriter and singer is Max and he has a bit of a musical pedigree, his uncle Myke Gray, was in a fairly successful metal band called Skin, who were mananged by Sanctuary for many years. So although he is very young he is extremely focused and knows exactly what he wants. We think for their age and lack of experience they are very promising indeed.

Hey thankyou to those of you have taken time to listen to my band, I am the singer and songwritter of the band. Your comments have been taken on board and we will be working on them. I was amazed to be discussed on such a well known forum. We improve every gig and as that video you saw was only our 6th gig and was recorded on a mobile phone i think youd agree that isnt a fair judgement of what we may become, we arent a finished product yet and are still polishing our sound and performance please keep watching us and thanks again for taking the time to give us your opinions. Any more advise you could give would be much appreciated
thanks
Max

Just got an email from Max the singer thanking me for posting here and asked if there was any advice I may like to offer... good move

Having listened again I'm getting to quite like it, Granted it's not going to set us old grumblies a'fire but the audience on the video seem to be going for it. The tracks are better.

(The video is on a mobile phone - interesting considering recent post on not letting mobiles in to big band gigs)

If nothing else he's astute enough to follow up.

I was a big SKIN supporter.

I played their songs to a couple of 13 yr old girls and their reaction was very positive.

F.O.H - that sounds dangerously like DEVELOPING a band!!!!!

Sounds like a good idea - pity the Majors don't try it sometime.

May be worth tipping the band to the FAB Chart - although their email just returns a failure notice at the moment.

weird minds think alike ... or something 18 Years, 3 Months ago
not that you're at all weird zooloo

I emailed the FAB Chart about Unentitled and they replied that they had already been tipped about them and they were "in the system". So I guess we have to watch that space.

Re:UnEntitled - Cornish band 18 Years, 3 Months ago
it is this sort of post that I find very refreshing because somebody is obviously taking the time to let this outfit mature both in a literal and artistic sense. Out there gigging, writing, recording and focusing themselves on what needs to get done. And they have found and understood their target audience.

Not my "thang", but I still tip my hat. It deserves to go.

Thanks for the supportive comments about letting these young bands devlop naturally. We provide as much opportunity as possible for the under 18's to play live gigs, as learning their stage craft and understanding an audience are not things that should be forced. They are all of course desperate for 'success', as they see younger and younger bands hitting the charts they all think their lives are over if they haven't been signed before they finish college!
Even when you come across such precocious as UneEntitled. (The recorded songs were actually written when the singer was just 13), We still think they should be old enough emotionally before they take things too seriously and would rather encourage them to enjoy themselves whilst developing their craft. As long as we all encourage, support and provide oppurtunity, point out the pitfalls as well as the positives, the best should rise to the surface naturally.
