How do I remove a vocal from a track? 18 Years, 3 Months ago
Greetings board...

I'm hoping someone out there can help with some advice on how to remove a vocal from an audio track.

A few years ago, I recorded one of my songs with my then band and now I'd like to re-record the vocals.

Thing is, I don't have the original backing track (I want to keep this) minus the vox.

Are there any software apps that can do the job for me, or is there some kind of EQ-based trickery I can use...?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Adios,
Pete

There's software around that will remove everything panned dead centre which normally means the vox but also anything else that's there. You'll also be left with any stereo reverb or delay from the vox which will sound naff. In fact, you're better off re-recording it.

Kevs right, but a cheap way, depending on how upfront your vocal will be on the new recording, is to wallop 500khz and 1 k down on an eq.This will only serve as a demo though.
It`s best to start again Pete.

Invert the polarity of one side of the stereo signal and then mix the left and right channels together in mono.

Easy and it sounds really shit. You then can spend time tweaking it and it will sound really shit. You can spend a lot of time tweaking it and it will sound really shit.

It's cheaper than buying software which sounds really shit but it does sound really shit.

Kev had the quickest, easiest and best fix - re-record it.

Did I mention the other options sound really shit? I think Kev did.
