TOPIC: Take That the musical

Take That the musical 18 Years, 3 Months ago
Great idea - Back For Good was one of the ten best pop records ever made and, for me, Never Forget was up there with it.

I must admit, I personally am getting a little tired of the West End Musical phase of how a band/act "made it".
I do hope this is not another one of those shows.

That said, they all would be lining up for a "how we failed to make it" show.

It would appeal to me, this idea,I am yet to be fed a piece of fiction, where the end result was nil points.

Quite an odd irony actually, it would break an unsellable act.

'Never Forget' is cashing in on Take thats hugely successful reformation and will obviously be hugely popular, yet the lads themselves are publicly distancing themselves from it and not endorsing it...BET THEY'LL KEEP THE FACKING ROYALTY CHEQUES THOUGH WON'T THEY!!
I mean if they opposed i that much then surely they wouldn't allow their songs to be used?....

I will be very surprised if the actors and dancers in the show do not have the approval from the real characters themselves.

To work , this will have to be a very high energy performance, and assuming there are the normal two performances on a Saturday, the fitness levels will have to be exceptionally high of course.

It`s an odd one, it just seems rather too soon after the initial events of TT breaking, to be a true nostalgia trip for me.

All the other shows of similar ilk, harken back to acts that are no longer with us, or have changed so much that a look back at their career seems relevent.

There are only two things different with the Take That we had today than of yesterday.
They have no Robbie, and they don`t perform cartwheels anymore.

Everything I read about this says it WON'T be a Take That musical just as Mamma Mia is NOT an Abba musical.
They both simply use the songs with a totally individual story line, characters etc.

As MM is not about Abba, so TT will not be about Take That.

I read this morning that the story will revolve around a TT tribute act...

In terms of the band distancing themselves from the musical, do the songwriters have any choice in whether the show can use their songs?

Could Barlow refuse permission, or does the publisher have final say?

Adios,
Pete

Only publishers need give permission Pete though they would be unwise doing so if the writers objected - unless the relationship is over.

I gather permission was granted long before the comeback so I suspect Gary needed the money then.
