Tune into BBC2 - my first thought is all are better than usual but I don't hear a smash. After one listen I favoured YOU.

Well - sitting comfortably - No1 - no hope.

No2 song Astronaut - no hope.

Song 3 - better but very old fashioned and has all the ingredients that Corporate Creativity (my latest hate) puts into an entry. As opposed to being a hit.

Song 4 - YOU - this was the one I fancied after one listen and I still think it's the best so far; like a Michael Jackson or Stevie Wonder song. Simple and strong; he's got a good voice.

Song 5 - let's try to do a Loreen - I really hate songs by committee. No hope (and incidentally no chorus - you cannot base an entire song repeating the letters EVER in five ways).

Song 6 - more manufactured corporate creative thinking doesn't work at all - no hope.

So I reckon it's between Asanda and You and neither will win Eurovision but both are OK.
Interesting that they don't give the titles of the songs (SONG contest) but the Artistes to vote.

Song #4 gets my vote. The sixth song (by Gallstone?) sounded in part very familiar.

Well E..E..Ev...Ev... everererer won. Probably 12th or 14th in Eurovision I think. The UK really does need me back again. Though sadly my age and fading ears cross me out (not anything else, though Lord HallHall might disagree).

Any further comments and opinions? A mere 650 views for this thread so far - most past years it was ten times that.

I think Rylan’s negative comments about song #4 may have greatly damaged its chances.

I think Goldstone was the best fit for Eurovision. Most winners have involved females and the song was fairly catchy, but not great. The clip of Abba winning in 74, showed the gulf between the charisma and melody of that song and any missing from recent winners. The guy introducing the programme was the winner in 2015, but nowone remembers the song, or any other song from the last 20 years (except lorde and not for good reasons). The contest has become a farce with Austrailia taking part. The staging of the contest has become biggar and better as the years go on, but the relevance has decreased dramatically.

I think we, in the UK, play the ESC as something which was relevant, but now not so much to us, but still very important to those in mainland Europe. Thus, the UK being in it is doing the rest of the continent a favour.
