I seem to recall Ditto Music doing physical as well as digital and supplying barcodes for them. Can't see anything on their site, might be worth dropping them an Email.

going digital doesn't stop the need for barcodes .. GSI is the main body that distributes EAN/barcodes (EAN = European Article Numbers)

I had to pay AU$2000 to join plus annual fees of something like AU$1000
and I've just used a dozen barcodes so far and that's for songs that are soley distributed over iTunes Store.

My advise - do whatever it takes and don't be cheap ... If you are serious about being in the recording racket and you are selling music by digital or physical means then it's just a fact of life you need barcodes and you need to pay your VAT/GST obligations. This is a business .. otherwise sell your CD without a barcode and sell your songs ditially over the many b-list web sites/stores.

Either you're a professional or you're just doing it as a hobby, nothing wrong with having it a hobby .. but if you wanna play in the real world of selling music you better gear up to the next level..

go with an aggregator...they take care of it for you.

try AWAL and/or Tunecore...they do it all. Then flog your physicals at the gigs to make a couple of quid in the meantime. And join the PPL 'cause it's free and they give you a nice code that tracks your music worldwide. And join the PRS, 'cause they're nice people who will track and pay you mechanical royalties.

So there really is no need to pay money to nasty people or sign horrid rip off record/distribution deals with equally horrid and beastly people.

AWAL I'm afraid didn't work for us so we've ceased trading with them, nothing serious went wrong we were just expecting a bit more support.

Just off to play at an allnighter Skate/BMX Event, this is a first for us, might seem a bit strange grinding out the tunes whilst everyone trix and bunnyhops around on their BMX, inline skates and Skateboards.
