Anyone in music working over Easter? 18 Years, 2 Months ago
In the days when I was deeply involved it was a 24/7 job.
But several executives I called this morning (Thursday) are "off for Easter".

All back "on Tuesday".

That's five days off for no reason.

Doesn't anybody care about hits anymore?

Easter used to be the busiest weekend for live music for me, and I would not expect to be seen for the entire time and in fact I went over the VAT threshold in one Easter weekend with acts and myself working.

We are continuing to work this weekend, at what we now do, which the majors would appear to not be doing, but it is all very different, the niches are different.

Sunny day, laptop in the garden.

Whilst the cats are away.......

Easter or not, its no excuse for my band to stop rehearsing for our next gig. We have just acquired a new lead singer so we're actually doubling rehearsal time over Easter. Life goes on for the working musician!

My answering machine says I'm off to. Meanwhile, I'm shipping stuff and catching up on the more speculative things I have been meaning to do.

Mind you, I've nothing against taking time off. Are we not men (as opposed to ants)?

JK, You really are a complete arse sometimes. People have families and children and therefore take time and trouble to be with them. What is this 24/7 working all hours crap anyway. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy ,etc. Even newspapers realise that.

Ah Walter you're quite right; there's far more to life than just music.
My point was - in days gone by, the music was so vital that it dominated timetables and people organised the rest of their lives around their projects.

It now seems to be the other way around.

Well now you are making a totally different and somewhat more valid point. Music indeed does not dominate lifestyles and social interaction as it once did. Sport does. Trying to become a celebrity does. Come to that, being a celebrity does.
Either way you old rogue, Happy Easter and don't work too hard.

I can tell you why most of the A&R were out of the office yesterday...The Boy Majors @ Club Designer Magazine gig last night in Manchester.

Personally I havent been buzzing about a band as much as this for a good few months. 400 capacity venue totally full with 100 people queueing outside the venue, loads of industry folk down there

Decent enough sound but all the songs are simply repeated lines and riffs.
They need to develop their writing skills.
