Hugh goes into the studio with hotly tipped Newcastle pop band THE JACKS next week.......with several labels attending their bunfight for the band in the summer at The Fly........
The band sold out the Fly and Barfly in London recently and are one of the hottest bands heading the Red Stripe Awards.
Whimsical indie pop but with great tunes. Some badly recorded demos are on their website at www.myspace.com/domgoldsmith ( been hacked as well by the looks of it )
and I am very excited with the thought of HP teaming up with this band.
So watch this space
Great programme as well last night JK totally agree - enjoyed the demo for Every Little Thing she does is Magic !!

I just got an Alesis 1622 mixer to complete a retro project onto half track.
It`s a beauty.
I`m determined to use no digital until the end.
The first irritating thing of which I had forgot about, was a tape de-spooling itself from the reel to reel!
A labour of love!
Re:Hugh Padgham in Record Producers 18 Years, 2 Months ago
I am splicing bits of tape off Zoo and other producer interested people, for each number, and limiting myself to how much tape is on, or not on,each reel.I have just varied the amounts without measuring them.
The rules are, all tracks have to go down live and the spools are of varying sizes.
All the reels are being labelled with a song "title", that has not been written yet, or even conceived.(i.e. "Half Moon" which I will write tomorrow for example)
The gear here is nearly reaching up to the ceiling now, literally, but then, I don`t think anyone expects an ordinary project from us lot!
I find it a very interesting idea to create pop songs, live , without the constraints of a clock timer, just a tape running out and a counter.
Is he going to stamp on the bath you ask?
Yes, you got it in one!I want to expirience how Joe Meek did it.

The first synth in one of my early bands was a Transcendent 2000 which you bought as a kit from Maplin electronics and had to build yourself, with predictable results. The keyboard player mimed many a silent performance!
I nearly had a very nasty accident whilst digging through the spool box yesterday and finding the splicing blades and block at the bottom.
