The highlight of yesterday's proceedings in Helsinki was the Georgian party. Reports suggest that their President has thrown two million quid at their debut attempt, and it certainly showed.

Wonderful Georgian food in abundance and an excellent Georgian wine, specially prepared for the event. The obligatory performance from their singer was followed by an excellent show of traditional Georgian singing and dancing. The assembled press corps of Europe was highly impressed by the whole affair.

Sadly the rumour that they were going to fly out a certain Georgian singer from London did not materialise!

Later on at the Euroclub, the nightly meeting point, my friend and fellow boarder Glen was seen hob-nobbing with Paddy O'Connell, the BBC commentator for the semi final, into the early hours.

I didn't fair so well, chatting to one of the trumpet players from the German song, looking considerably worse for wear. And coming from me, that is really quite disturbing. Nice guy though.

Oh, and it's touching 20 degrees now. Lovely day.

What is "Georgian food"?

What sort of thing do they specialise in?

I read a report for Kazakhstan and they seem to very meat based, serving up entire sheep's head and being told gleefully the tongue (still in) was the best bit.

Besides meat there seemed to nothing else.

We really need Mart out here, if you want a worthwhile food report!

There were no recognizable animal heads at least. There were some delicious Georgian cheeses which I concentrated on.

Not dissimaler to my favourite Lebanese cuisine.
Notably with the addition of beetroot.
Lots of chicken and mutton and expect to find stuffed vine leaves a lot.
I doubt it will be anything that is not local produce, enjoy!
