I am so relieved Serbia beat Ukraine. The Serbian song was strong and had a very good orchestral arrangement.

The Ukraine delegation was on TV this afternoon (or rather DJ Pasha who, if I remember did that dippy falling in love/falling out of love/falling in love again routine with his co-host following their hosting after Raslana's win).

He criticized Scooch on the grounds that they weren't funny or serious, but stuck in between. And he said Ukraine's entry could become a new Macarena or The Ketchup Song. Dream on.

It seemed to me a very bad rip off of Stefan Rabb's Wadda Hadda Dudda Da, with a man dressing like Elton John, circa 1972.

I should have put money on Serbia. I saw it on the semi and it was the only song I rated there, but the odds weren't generous (5-1).

I still think Scooch could have the holiday hit DJ Pasha alluded to with his Ukraine entry.

I think there will be trouble now that 11 out of the top 12 were East European and that no Western European countries made it through the semi-final.

Actually I believe that the Ukraine entry approached the cometition with a sense of humour, bravado and performance paralled with a hook that sadly outshone the UK entry at every level.

This competition is fun, and so is not worthy of an inquest despite certain individuals' desires. But I will say this. Something has to be said for the British approach this year of haVING a 'NAME' band in the competition.That move alone in essence totally negated the fact that this is a SONGWRITING competition. Somebody somewhere clearly wanted viewers rather than listeners. This from the corporation that has practically declared itself inept of presenting current popular music at any negligible level, I remind you!

It would have been a more interesting escapade to have had an unsigned band/act enter the comptetion, with voting on myspace for instance? This is, afterall, the nation that gave the world the internet?

I can say now the competition is over, that I was particularly put out several months ago when I contacted those behind the British entry as to what the "plans" were for this year, to subsequently not have my emails or phone calls returned. Why should I, you may ask? Well several years ago I gave up my time to judge Brtish Eurovision entry, at the request of JK and Bob I think it was at EMI, and I must say I greatly enjoyed the challenge of whittling down the 30 plus decent entrants to four for Radio Two listeners to decide upon. It was clear then that songwriters at every level had put much thought into their entry. Whatever you may think or Eurovision, it was clear from tonight that there was a passion behind several performances that even with irony retained diginity. This country might not agree that this competition is one for artists, but it is a potential break for songwriters.

Can we not get a grip on this event and attack it next year, rather than wallow in the "shit, what do we do with this" malaise that the BBC seem to approach it with. I have no problem with achieveing "null points" as long as we go in fighting...

Serbia - good singer great voice - instantly forgettable song. I've heard it several times but couldn't remember how it went if my life depended on it.

Ukraine appproached the contest with the right attitude - to have fun.

The contest definately suffers from 'block voting' on a level worse than before. I don't recall ever hearing booing at the voting of previous contests. It has become so blatantly obvious and predictable.

Good thing we Brits don't take it seriously.

I agree about Serbia. Usually the last song I hear stays in my mind for ages even if I hate it. After they had sung it again as winners I went into the kitchen to make a cup of tea. I could picture them but there was no sound. The song had gone from my mind that quickly. The only ones I could remember were Ukraine and Hungary.

I can't see Serbia having a major worldwide hit with that song, but good luck to the singer who certainly has a good voice.
