Made in 17 days for less than $150k, I think it's not only a genius way to sell an album (the soundtrack is on columbia/sony) but it's an example of how, perhaps, albums might be approached in future..
The plumetting costs of film making and editing is not unlike the drop in album making costs in the 90s and I think it makes it more accesible.....where film maker meets songwriter and something more than just 12 or 13 songs on a plastic disc is the result.
The film is getting mostly great reviews following the Sundance award in 2007 and while it might not be to everyone's taste (it probably should be called a musical)..it's shot on DV and doesn't look out of place on the big screen.
For the anoraks..the director is an ex-member of The Frames, John Carney and the lead actor is "Outspan" from The Comittments..better known as Glen Hansard of The Frames.
