TOPIC: I've been listening to Radio One lately
#19921
I've been listening to Radio One lately 18 Years ago
and watching the playlist and think the station has really lost the plot musically.

It seems to feature a solid musical diet of sounds that are weak versions of sounds that were fine several years ago.

Very much photocopies of past hits.

Oh, and clearly impressed by major label promotion priorities.

Anyone else agree?

I agree with you on that. Though i must confess i haven't listened to their playlist.
Problem for Radio 1 is that it seems to be 'corrupted' by the notion of majors = best. Radio 1 have lost the plot and to be honest I can't see a change anytime soon.

I listen to Radio 1 most often, but they tend to play Indie music most of the time, their playlist is horrendous, some acts they don't get even play, like Kelly Clarkson new track, nothing really worth noting.

It does seem to be dominated by the major labels and "product" rather than any musical cohesion.

The new Radio 2 schedules are excellent and Radio 6 is really mixing it up as well. Everyone I speak to seems to be listening to one of those two stations in London and heaven knows where Radio 1 gets its listeners from ......

Have to admit I think Radio 1 lost the plot over a decade ago, when it decided to limit it's target audience to a certain age group. They totally missed the point that quality will always draw the biggest audience. It surpasses age, appealing to people in every generation.

It's more like Radio 2 18 Years ago
The daytime playlisting is more Radio 2, too much easy listening even to the extent where I believe JK & Joel `picked` the same `Record of the Week` as a R2 DJ. I feel it lacks edge I agree it's too dominated by Majors and America.

Good example is the total takeover they did last bank holiday where every song was a request with no playlisting. The amount of Rap/Hip Hop was way down on usual. What an excellent way for management to discover what the public want but I guess they'll ignore it.

The late evenings/nights are far better.

not worth the cost of a CD and stamp to send a promo copy.
