Diana concert - complete non-event ? 17 Years, 11 Months ago
Not a mention on this site (or the other one).

Stadium (on the news) looked half-empty?

Utter non-event?

(btw As William and Harry "organized" the event, I wonder if they will be up for organizing other tours?!!)

We have it on, I wouldn`t say it`s a non event, but the live broadcast is suffering incredibly from a lack of apparent communication between the production teams and the presenters and probably the stage crew.

I thought the stadium was half empty too at first, but it it quite clearly cut off at the side of the screen and stage where there would be no viewing possibilities.

The level of the crowd sound seems to be continually being lost on one of the mixing desks as well.

Really enjoyed it on the TV. Live shows going out for over 6 hours are bound to have problems - especailly one that was probably low budget.

The stadium looked superb - the reason for empty seats is that the bars and catering are superb and many people took longer to get into them !

The acts were really good in my view and the guest list very impressive.

I personally miss Diana's work and compassion feeding into our media which is now a distorted spinning machine for New Labour.......

A refreshing line up after the damp squib that was Glastonbury - and most festivals this summer. Sorry but the "hype" dominated "same every time" line ups that are playing the Festivals this year are very poor in my view and bad for live music. At least this show was "original" in every sense of the word which made it very watchable.

I dipped into it - thought Take That were excellent (doing just three terrific songs)... in case anyone had any doubt, it proved that the talented one in Take That was Gary Barlow!

I enjoyed TT as well, although I did not expect to at all.
More writers like Barlow please.

The downside( of course..)

Who is his wardrobe advisor?
I can understand the efficient managerial look he has taken on, but the clothes do seem rather tight and undignified.

I have to mention Ricky Gervais.
I had to hide my face in embarrasment I`m afraid. I could not even raise a smile at his impromtu stand up.

Bryan Ferry played a mind blowing harmonica solo, and lost his breath whist immediately coming in for the next verse afterwards, a classic sign of getting older as a human being, loved it.When the inevitable DVD comes out, will little points like this be corrected?
Sadly probably.
I did like the short and sweetness of the acts though, when you look back on the original Live Aid, it was quite incredible how long U2 dragged "that" number out.
P Diddy was superb and very calm and cool.

My only other comment, was how very strange Andrew Lloyd Webber`s show songs sound when taken out of context.

"Jesus Christ Superstar....etc etc..C`mon Wembley sing it!! "
eh??
That could sound positively atheist to the unitiated , although granted there are not many.

I leave you to draw your own conclusions from that, and ponder it as 5m people watched worldwide.

Not a bad show on reflection though, although, every conceivable live broadcast mishap did happen.

Only caught bits of it. I wasn't a fan of Diana and didn't feel any emotional urge to tune in, especially for seven hours.

Was pleased to see Brian Ferry performing some of his older stuff rather than plugging his new covers. I also noticed the sound was a bit iffy, but as people say, that can heppen in live broadcasts.

Picking up on the point that cat made about Brian Ferry playing his older stuff, he was the main culprit for not doing that at Live Aid, 85.
He has long since got away with it, as they all became well known tunes after.
Adam Ant did notably failed to manage the same feat with "Viva La Rock", which I think still is great, but he really should have done "Stand and Deliver".
Anyway, I digress, here`s a quick Gervais quote.

....."ummm..."....
