First of all, I would like to have seen them on a bigger stage, as they were a little cramped up there, but boy, were they tight or what? And spot on harmonies.
The following at the gig, was very impressive, and it WAS a following as well, as you could hear and see people singing every word.I have thought long and hard about whether I think they are a major tip from myself or not, they are truely a great band but I worry that they may be in a crowded marketplace, that said, the following in a London "showcase" type venue, is becoming all too rare recently in our personal current run of trips to gigs.
The guys in the audience love the songs, and the girls love the guys in the band.
I can see the song "Pretty" being a festival fave. Hit? not sure, but I do think they will get a decent signing offer on the table.
JK asked in a recent post, "Where do we go to find music?"
I believe we have to use the Myspace as a reference point and then check bands out live, The Ryes are much more powerful live than the recordings suggest, which is great, but does raise whole new points when looking for an embryonic spark, which I feel is my bag.
But, in a nutshell, I think they will actually make a dent, so thumbs up.
On an amusing note, re-The Borderline itself, around the water filled bucket outside the venue itself,(the smoking area(!?)) where most of the industry guest list hang out, it was noted that nobody has yet offered sponsorship for , what will probably famously become "The Borderline Bucket"!
Full marks also, to the band the Foxes, who took time out to hand out flyers themselves for their gigs.
Great enthusiasm, most impressed, I haven`t listened to them yet, I shall dig the site details out when I unpack and check them out.
Alive and tipping.
